About Semirara Mining and Power

Semirara Mining and Power Corporation is the largest domestic coal producer in the Philippines, mining coal on Semirara Island, and it is part of the DMCI group. It both sells coal to third parties and uses it to fuel its own power plants, selling electricity into the grid — an integrated mine-to-power model. Because it supplies a large share of locally produced coal and meaningful generation capacity, SCC is a direct play on Philippine coal and baseload electricity.

What moves the stock

Coal prices and coal sales volumes are the dominant drivers — when global and regional coal prices are high, SCC's mining margins expand, and the reverse squeezes them. Mine output can be affected by weather, geological conditions and operational issues. The power business adds exposure to electricity spot prices and plant availability. Because coal earnings can be volatile, SCC has historically paid large but variable dividends, so payout decisions strongly influence the stock. Longer term, the energy transition and any policy shift away from coal are structural risks the market weighs against the company's current strong cash generation.
