The Best PSE Brokers for Beginners, Compared
An honest, neutral comparison of the SEC-licensed online stock brokers most Filipino beginners use — COL Financial, BPI Trade, First Metro, AP Securities, Philstocks, and investing through GCash — and how to choose the one that fits you.
The Best PSE Brokers for Beginners, Compared
To buy Philippine stocks you need an account with a broker that the Philippine Stock Exchange has accredited — a trading participant, licensed and regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Several serve ordinary Filipino investors, and for a beginner the differences are smaller than the marketing suggests. What follows is a neutral look at the most common choices, and a simple way to decide between them.
A note before the list: we only cover SEC-licensed Philippine brokers. Foreign apps such as eToro and Interactive Brokers are now restricted or blocked for residents of the Philippines, so they are not options here — and anyone promoting them to Filipinos is on the wrong side of the SEC. Stick to brokers you can find on the PSE's own list of trading participants.
The bank-backed brokers
If you already bank with one of the big institutions, the simplest path is often the broker that sits inside the same group, because funding the account is effortless.
- BPI Trade is the online platform of BPI Securities, the brokerage arm of the Bank of the Philippine Islands. It is regulated by the SEC and a member of the PSE's clearing and investor-protection systems. If you bank with BPI, moving money in is simple, and you have a long-established bank standing behind the account.
- First Metro Securities, part of the Metrobank group, is widely regarded as the most capable platform for those who want serious charting and trading tools.
- BDO Securities is the convenient choice for BDO clients who want their banking and investing under one roof.
The independent online brokers
- COL Financial has long been the most popular starting point for small Filipino investors. It is beginner-friendly, has a low minimum to begin, and offers a large library of research and how-to material. Its Easy Investment Program is built precisely for people putting in small, regular amounts.
- Philstocks Financial is a local broker popular with beginners for low fees and a low barrier to entry.
- AP Securities is a long-running, well-ranked trading participant operating since the 1980s.
The easiest start of all: investing through GCash
If you already use GCash, you can buy real PSE shares without opening a separate broker app at all. GStocks PH, built into GCash and powered by the licensed broker AB Capital Securities, lets you buy and sell listed companies with no minimum deposit. For many Filipinos it is the lowest-friction way to begin. We walk through it in how to invest in stocks using GCash.
So which should you choose?
For a beginner, the honest answer is that all of these are legitimate and safe, and the best broker is simply the one you will actually fund and use. A useful way to decide:
- Already on GCash, or want the smallest possible first step — GStocks PH.
- Bank with BPI, BDO, or Metrobank — the matching bank-backed broker.
- Want the most research and the biggest beginner community — COL Financial.
- Want low fees and a low entry amount — Philstocks or AP Securities.
Whatever you pick, only invest money you will not need for the next three to five years, and start small. The platform matters far less than the habit of investing steadily.
Where to go from here
Once you have chosen, the next step is the account itself — see how to open your first stock brokerage account in the Philippines. To understand the marketplace your orders flow into, read how the Philippine Stock Exchange works. And before you commit real money, the portfolio tracker is free and needs no brokerage account.
